Ventricular Assist Device Monitor

BIBA has released its latest report on Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) systems. The report covers the 5 largest European markets: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK.

The data suggests that the volume of ventricular assist device implants grew at a conservative rate compared to the previous quarter. The data also suggests limited adoption of the new HeartMate III system following its commercial launch in October 2015.

European Vascular and Endovascular Monitor – Aortic Segmentation and Forecasting

BIBA is launching a new monitor that tracks aortic surgical and endovascular procedures by disease type. This new aortic market segmentation will:

• Incorporate our already existing primary data sourcing capabilities by utilising our database, the largest Aortic Physician database in Europe (we survey 500+ centres for EVAR and open repair)
• Track uptake of new endovascular technologies for Type A dissections and complex aortic aneurysms
• Estimate market sizes and shares per segment of the aorta.
• Forecast the aortic market by procedure  and disease type which allows for dynamic “what if” scenario modelling.

TAVI International & US

The report covering the data period January – March 2016 will be published on June 21st. The report covers 120 TAVI centres internationally, in addition to 70 US TAVR centres and 35 TAVI centres from Japan. Overall, the report includes 36 countries internationally. The data is published every three months.

TAVI W. Europe

The TAVI report Q1 2016 has been published. The data suggests that TAVI grew at a high single-digit rate compared to the previous three-month period and by 35% year on year. The data suggests a 2% increase in the Transapical route penetration as well as increased competition amongst the main TAVI players.

Left Atrial Appendage Closure (LAA)

BIBA has published the data for the second half of 2015. The data suggests that percutaneous LAA implants grew at a mid-double digit rate year on year. Amongst other factors, clinical evidence and extension of reimbursement contributed to the growth. The LAA report currently includes the 5 largest European markets: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and the UK, with plans to extend the research to the Benelux and part of Eastern Europe. The report is published twice a year. The next report issue is due for publication at the end of July.

Cardiac Surgery

The Cardiac Surgery report Q1 2016 is due for publication on June 24th. The Cardiac Surgery monitor is one of BIBA’s longest-running market research trackers. Since 2003 the monitor has been providing regular updates on heart valve replacement and repair technologies. The research is clinician-led and undertaken at quarterly intervals by surveying a pool of 160 leading cardiothoracic institutions in W. Europe.

Coronary Stenting

BIBA has released its new line of PCI market monitors on use of coronary stents and coronary balloons in Western and Eastern Europe.

These improved report versions include:

• Greater number of DES models being tracked, reflecting the most recent changes in the marketplace
• DES breakdown by polymer type
• Stent prices reported in dual currency
• Additional BVS brands (Elixir Medical Desolve; Biotronik Magmaris)

Focus groups

With the 38th edition of the CX Symposium now over, BIBA MedTech has confirmed itself as the industry’s ideal partner of choice for the conduction of market research focus groups in the vascular and endovascular space.

The focus groups at CX have provided once again unparalleled insights into product development, perception and positioning in the market. BIBA, in conjunction with the CX Symposium, has provided all the necessary equipment, and has used its extensive network to recruit physicians according to requirements.

Looking beyond CX, BIBA will be conducting similar focus groups at other forthcoming conferences later this year.

Imaging reports

Imaging is a vast and increasingly important interdisciplinary territory in today’s clinical practice. BIBA is currently monitoring three mainstream imaging technologies for interventional cardiology (FFR, IVUS, and OCT) and is planning a further research into the use of imaging techniques for cardiac, cerebral, and endovascular intervention. Amongst other fascinating technologies which will be included in the research is an innovative simulation software for TAVI procedures.We will also be researching innovative technologies for minimally invasive spinal procedures.
